Every new Royal Teak design goes through the same gauntlet before release, and the first station is the least glamorous: people. Prototypes sit in the office, on porches, and on the factory floor for months while staff of every height and build live with them. A seat that measures right but sits wrong goes back to the drawing board — the drawing changes before the tooling does.
Then the weather takes a turn. Frames sit outside through full seasons — coastal humidity, direct summer UV, freeze-thaw where we can get it — while we watch what the joints, finishes, and fabrics actually do. Cushions get rained on and timed drying. Sling fabrics get scrubbed. Teak silvers and gets restored, so the care instructions we publish are ones we have run ourselves.
Finally, the hardware audit: every fastener checked after months of use, every load point CNC-cut for precision and re-examined against the drawing. Pieces that pass become the products on this site. Pieces that don't become revisions — and occasionally, they simply become lessons.
It is a slower way to release furniture. It is also why some of our SKUs have run fifteen years without a structural complaint, and why we can stand behind every piece with a full structural warranty without blinking.
